Why Functional Medicine?

Why do I feel so bad if everything is “normal”?

In functional medicine, the emphasis is on identifying the root causes of your symptoms. This approach recognizes that imbalances within your body can lead to various health issues.

These imbalances might not always show up in standard medical tests, but they can still significantly impact how you feel and function.

Factors such as stress, dietary choices, environmental exposures, genetics, and lifestyle habits all play a role in your overall well-being.

Functional medicine practitioners assess these elements comprehensively, considering the interconnectedness of your body’s systems. By understanding the underlying causes, functional medicine aims to restore balance, promote healing, and help you regain your vitality, even when conventional tests suggest everything is “normal.”

In essence, functional medicine offers a more holistic and personalized perspective, addressing not just the symptoms but the deeper factors contributing to your health challenges.

Testosterone levels generally peak during adolescence and early adulthood. As you age, your testosterone level gradually declines — typically about 1% a year after age 30 or 40. For older men, it's important to determine if a low testosterone level is due to normal aging or if it is due to a disease (hypogonadism)

Female Cycle Mapping

Female Cycle Mapping

For some women, testing reproductive hormones (progesterone, estrogen, etc.) on a single day is sufficient. In other scenarios, the clinical picture cannot be properly captured without “mapping” out the hormonal pattern throughout their menstrual cycle. The expected pattern of hormones shows relatively low estrogen levels early in the cycle, a surge around ovulation and modest levels in the latter third of the cycle (the luteal phase).
